Team Matrix is about the ups and downs of taking a common motorcycle passion and moving into the fast lane with it. Our company, Matrix Motosports is sponsoring my son, Skyler, on his quest to enter the road racing community. We have put together a good bike, especially with the help of good friends and fellow racers. This blog is to share our journey into that world.

Survived First Trackday

This past Sunday, we got all our gear together and went to Firebird Track (East) for Skyler's and Matrix's first trackday on the Suzuki GSX R600. The zebra paint has been sanded off and the bike is in primer, still waiting for us to decide on a paint/color scheme. Skyler went onto the track with enthusiasm and speed. We refused to give him lap times all day, knowing that he is highly competitive and would focus on beating himself instead of developing techniques. He continued to improve his times all day. His best this first day out was 1 Minute 09.628 Seconds. Considering that his group was all beginners and he often had to wait to past, he did a great job. Race times are usually about one minute.

He had one low side dismount ;- ) in turn one. He dropped a gear and the rear spun out. He immediately bounced up, re-teched the bike and went back on the track. Little damage, just some wear and tear marks.

We are on again for a trackday this Sunday. I know he will ask us for times again, and again we will lie and deny clocking him. Let's just hope for a fun, fast, safe day.
