Racing Begins
My son and I have been talking about starting a SuperSport motorcycle racing team for many years. Skyler, my son, is a certified motorcycle mechanic and we thought we would start off with a project bike and build it for racing. He has just finished a frame up restoration on an 82 BMW R65LS into a cafe racer that he rides. He has ridden street and dirt and he is talented and fearless at everything else he has tried, so we thought this would be a good focus for the future.
On the same day we decide to move forward, a friend, David Slepak, owner of Euro Motorsports, advises me that Rory Palmer, who is now racing for him, is selling his personal race bike a 2005 Suzuki GSXR 600. It is well known in the CCS Southwest as the Zebra bike. (see photo) Rory just happens to be in the parking lot with his Dad. We strike up a conversation and then a deal. The bike is ready to go, but out of respect for Rory's identity as the Zebra racer, we will paint it with a new scheme.
This is a new venture and since we jumped in with both feet so fast, we had some other surprises. Tire warmers $339.00! Generator $899!, Leather Race Suit (gotta keep my kid's butt safe) $1400, Helmet, gloves, boots, trailer, tent, ... $$$$. Oh yeah, Trackdays and more Trac$days and more Trac$$days and more Tra$$$days and more T$$$$$ys, you get the idea...
We will keep the TEAM MATRIX blog updated with information about equipment, events, racing, and a little humor. Please check back for more.
Matrix Motosports, LLC is the only official sponsor of the team at this time. For those curious, the following are our current equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
